The Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, who studied distillation in Scotland. Located on Hokkaido's coast, Yoichi's cool, maritime climate mirrors that of Scottish Highland distilleries. The distillery still uses traditional coal-fired pot stills, producing a distinctively peaty, robust single malt.
