Satsuma Shuzo Meijigura

Historic shochu distillery in Kagoshima preserving Meiji-era brewing methods.

Satsuma Shuzo's Meijigura is a historic shochu distillery in Makurazaki, Kagoshima Prefecture, where the art of imo (sweet potato) shochu has been perfected since the Meiji era. The atmospheric stone-walled distillery still uses traditional clay pots (kame) for fermentation, producing rich, aromatic shochu that captures the essence of southern Kyushu.
